Moore, Clement Clark
Clement Clark Moore was born in New York in July 1779. When he wrote the poem “The Night Before Christmas” he
was a professor of Oriental and Greek literature at what is now Columbia University. The poem, originally titled, “A Visit from St. Nicholas”, is in large part responsible for the conception of the Santa Claus recognized today.
